BANGKOK, 11 October 2014 (NNT) – As the much-anticipated ASEAN Economic Community will be launched by the end of 2015, Permanent Secretary of the Thai Ministry of Labour Nakhon Silpa-archa has reminded varioius units to expedite programmes to upgrade working skills of Thai labour to match the international standard for their greater competitiveness in the regional market.
The Permanent Secretary has ordered the Department of Skill Development (DSD) to improve the labour skills and language proficiency as well as workers’ understanding in the culture of countries where they would like to work. He cited Singapore as an interesting market for Thai workers.
The DSD has been allocated approximately 525 million baht in the current fiscal year for the preparation of Thai labour. With that sum, the DSD will cooperate with business firms and its networks to improve skills of Thai workers for the AEC era. He believes that other ASEAN countries are also doing the same for their workforce.
