Project Title:  Indigenous Voices in Asia

Project Description

“Indigenous Voices in Asia” is a new initiative under the Research and Communication Development (RCD) programme of AIPP. The overall objective of the project is that indigenous people in Asia are effectively participating in democratic and political process through the promotion and protection of their rights to have access to all forms of media without discrimination and to set up their own media in their languages as enshrined in Article 16 of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP).

Specific objectives of the project are:

1.       Indigenous media professionals and rights activists are effectively reporting and broadcasting on indigenous issues through various media channels and use of multimedia form and innovative communication tools

2.       National governments and regional mechanism provide greater access for indigenous media professionals and rights activists to information and right to communicate/media

3.       Mainstream media reflect increased understanding and sensitivity to indigenous issues

Project Duration: 2 years

I. Qualification

  1. Must be in an indigenous person from Asia
  2. At least three years of experience in project management and project coordination
  3. Familiar/involved with main stream media and multimedia production
  4. Experienced in media campaign strategy and advocacy, and engagement with community media
  5. Excellent writing skills in English
  6. Familiar/involved with indigenous issues
  7. Highly creative and motivated
  8. Committed to work with indigenous organizations on a long term basis
  9. Mature personality with the ability to work in a team and in a multicultural setting and demanding work environment with cross program coordination

II.Main Tasks

  1. To coordinate project meetings, trainings, regional networking workshops and regional consultation on media together with partner organizations from Philippine, Lao PDR, Cambodia and Indonesia
  2. To facilitate establishment and strengthening of national and regional networks of indigenous journalists, media workers and right activists
  3. To coordinate research and documentation of good practices on innovative community media outreach”
  4. To produce an ASEAN regional briefing papers on media policies related to indigenous people
  5. To develop media strategy for sustained engagement with mainstream media
  6. To assist partner organizations inthe  establishment of new indigenous media enterprises
  7. To coordinate the production of audio/video and visual arts materials on indigenous issues
  8. To work together with the RCD Programme Coordinator for the implementation of the general program of the RCD and AIPP
