Not to be taken as beaten and trodden, the Temiars in Gua Musang had earlier this week resolved to rebuild all 3 blockades that were demolished by the authorities late last month.

rebuild-blockades-1Work has already started in the blockade at Cawas, near Kampung Peralong today, which controls movement into the Bihai, Belatim areas to the north of the Temiar heartland here.

Lodging and other structures are also being constructed in the two other blockade sites at Simpang Petei and Pasik. The plan is to have the blockades come into effect simultaneously on 15 December 2016.

Support from the public and civil society groups have been a great encouragement to the Temiars who are determined to protect their customary lands from deforestation and exploitation.

They have also donated food and other supplies needed to sustain the new blockade operations.

With the rainy season already here, securing the blockade would be a challenge, as would finding food for the families back at the settlements.
