IPHRD NETWORK Regional Training

The Indigenous Peoples Human Rights Defenders Network [IPHRD Net] is organizing the 2nd Regional Financial and Organisational Management Training on August 24-27, 2014 in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The IPHRD Net is a platform for solidarity, coordination and support among indigenous human rights defenders and their organizations. This network was established to address the growing need for a common platform for indigenous peoples human rights defenders to be able to work for the respect of the individual and collective rights of indigenous peoples in their respective countries more effectively.

The training aims to consolidate the IPHRD Network as a regional body and come up with an plan of action for the next three years. Since its establishment in 2010, IPHRD Net has grown from 18 indigenous organizations in 6 countries to 35 indigenous organizations and 13 support organizations in 18 countries in Asia.

The IPHRDs will be learning from each other through the sharing of key developments in the respect of the collective rights of indigenous peoples in their respective countries. Aside from this, there will also be the sharing of experiences, strategies, challenges, and lessons learned on human rights documentation and advocacy. This training will also be an opportunity for the IPHRD Net to be able to formalize a structure for decision-making and coordination for collective activities. They will then draft their 3-year action plan that will further consolidate and strengthen the network.

Twenty-five participants shall come from national IPHRD Networks and indigenous peoples organisations.

The training is organised by the IPHRD Net in collaboration with the Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact through the support of the European Instrument for Human Rights and Democracy.
