The Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP) is a regional organization of indigenous peoples’ movements in Asia. AIPP is committed to promoting and defending indigenous peoples’ rights, human rights and indigenous women’s rights. AIPP strengthens solidarity and cooperation among indigenous organizations and communities in Asia and collaborates with global indigenous movements.

AIPP has five strategic programmes to raise awareness and build capacities of indigenous peoples and their organizations and communities for them to be able to effectively claim and advocate for the rights and welfare at all levels. The Indigenous Women (IW) Programme focuses on building the capacities of indigenous women and advocacy and mainstreaming of the rights, welfare and aspirations of indigenous women in particular and the rights of indigenous peoples in general. Activities include advancing the full and effective participation of indigenous women in decision making bodies, mechanisms and processes at all levels relating to indigenous peoples and to women. The programme is being implemented in direct partnership with AIPP member-organizations and network members, and guided by the Indigenous Women Programme Committee as well as the Secretary General of AIPP.

AIPP is looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to be a ‘Volunteer’ of the Indigenous Women’s programme of AIPP. The duration should be at least 6 months

The main purpose of the volunteer placement in the IW programme is to provide support and assistance to the programme coordinator on the following: strengthen gender awareness within AIPP Secretariat and member organizations, reviewing and assess the implementation of AIPP’s Gender Policy and guidelines within the AIPP Secretariat and AIPP Programmes, support to develop and strengthen IW programme and identify opportunities for expansion, identify potential donors for member organisations and compile into an accessible database.

The volunteer shall be based in Chiang Mai, Thailand and shall be responsible for the following tasks and duties:

Specific Assignment

Strengthen gender awareness within the organization and its members and partners by assisting the IW programme coordinator in reviewing and assessing the implementation of AIPP’s Gender Policy within the AIPP Secretariat and AIPP Programmes and also assist AIPP member organizations and partners develop strategies for implementation of the Gender Policy and use tailored tools to monitor and evaluate the process of gender mainstreaming within their organizations;

Strengthen IW programme and identify opportunities for expansion including assisting in the fundraising for the programme; and

Strengthen capacity of IW organizations by assisting in providing training and support to indigenous women-member organizations in order to document their conditions and issues, experiences and activities, including: collecting and writing their stories (for the purpose of awareness raising and advocacy); and mapping out possible donors for members.


  1. At least 2 years of work experience on women’s rights and issues
  2. Skilled in organizing and coordinating training sessions, workshops, seminars and exposure/exchange visits.
  3. Able to communicate well in written and verbal English.
  4. Proficient in using computers, including word, spreadsheet and presentation applications.
  5. Self-motivated, creative and energetic
  6. Positive attitude to working in a multi-ethnic social environment
  7. Flexible to do multi-tasking and to work under pressure
  8. Committed to the cause of advancing indigenous women and indigenous peoples rights and aspirations

Remuneration and benefits for the volunteer include:
