Bangladesh: Indigenous rights groups make a joint submission to the UN Human Rights Committee

    A coalition of indigenous rights organizations today made a joint submission to the UN Human Rights Committee for the review of Bangladesh under International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) to be held in March 2017. The submission provides the situation of the civil and political rights of indigenous peoples in Bangladesh and particularly focuses on the issues of constitutional recognition, policies and legislations, violence, participation in the public and political life.

    The coalition includes five indigenous peoples’ organizations of Bangladesh, namely Kapaeeng Foundation, Bangladesh Indigenous Women’s Network, Bangladesh Indigenous Peoples Forum, Jatiya Adivasi Parishad and Achik Michik Society and an international indigenous rights organisation – International Work Group on Indigenous Affairs (IWGIA).
