KUALA TERENGGANU, Oct 29 (Bernama) — The level of awareness among Malaysians on the benefits of the Asean Community implementation by Dec 31 next year is still rather low, said Foreign Ministry Asean Socio-Cultural Community deputy director-general Ambassador Jojie Samuel.
Nonetheless, the ministry sees yearly growing awareness with the implementation of various programmes involving groups such as university students, entrepreneurs and youths, he said.
“Promotional activities have helped raise awareness among Malaysians as there is a huge potential market among the 600 million people in Asean,” he said.
“The achievement of the Asean Community in 2015 based on three main sectors namely Asean Economic Community, Asean Political-Security Community and the Asean Socio-Cultural Community will provide employment opportunities in certain fields and industries among the people of Asean countries,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after opening the 47th Asean day celebration here today.
