Indigenous Peoples Calls on The AICHR and The ASEAN to Address The Human Rights Issues of Indigenous Peoples
In the realization of the promotion and protection of the human rights and fundamental freedoms of the peoples of ASEAN, the establishment of the AICHR is a step in the right direction.  However, its mandate needs to be strengthened in terms of human rights protection including the human rights of indigenous peoples. see full text link

Subject: ADDRESSING THE HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUES OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES IN THE ASEAN
Dear Honorable Commissioners,
The Asia region is culturally diverse and is home to an estimated 2/3 of the total 300 million population of Indigenous Peoples worldwide. Few States in Southeast Asia however recognize Indigenous Peoples, and even if they do, our identity has not been taken into account during preparations of national censuses thus limiting our access to social services from the governments. read full text here letter of AICHR submission Sep 2010, Malaysia
